Angel Covers' New Website

I am thrilled to announce that Angel Covers has a brand new website!! Please check it out at http://www.angelcovers.org/ We are sure you'll find it easy to maneuver and full of wondering information about our work.

With the holiday's fast approaching, please consider shopping with Angel Covers. Our holiday cards are beautiful! Drawn by the children of Humble Hearts, these cards not only provide a great way to connect with friends and family, but also support the Humble Hearts School.

Other products such as shoes, blankets, hooded bath towels and craft aprons can be found on our products pages. The profits from the sale of these products support children around the world.

Not sure about a gift? Consider our gift cards! Make a donation in honor of a loved one and we'll send a card with a personal message. Or, consider the numerous children on our website who need sponsors and give the gift of sponsorship to both a child in need and your loved one. We'll happily send a card to the recipient.
Once again Angel Covers has a very generous donor willing to match by 50% all donations to the Humble Hearts School up to $5,000. When considering your year-end charitable donations, please think of Angel Covers and the children we serve. With no paid staff and very little administrative costs, you can rest assured your donation is making the biggest impact possible. We can't thank Kristen Kent with i2k Communications and Sheri Wahl with Trowen Communications enough. Their hard work made this website happen!

Thank you all for your continued support!

Web searches help Angel Covers

How many times a week do you search for things on the internet? Dozens? Hundreds? Now there is a great way to do all your searches and help Angel Covers too. Angel Covers has recently registered with Good Search. http://www.goodsearch.com/ With Good Search, you are able to search on anything just like you do now with Google and others. But, when you pick Angel Covers as your charity of choice, Angel Covers will get a donation of $.01 for each search you make. OK, so $.01 doesn't sound like much. But, think about how many times a week you search the internet. Pennies add up quickly. Millions of dollars are raised each year by charities around the world by asking children to save their pennies. This is no different. Millions of dollars have been donated by Good Search to Charities throughout the country.

Please go to http://www.goodsearch.com/ and check it out. You can easily add a tool bar so that you never have to remember to go to the Good Search site. I added a tool bar to my screen a couple of months ago and love it! Since it's there, I remember to use Good Search every time I need to complete a search and it's not in the way at all.

Thanks for considering this easy way to help Angel Covers. It's quick to add and costs you nothing to complete searches and help children around the world.

Warmth

Here are few things in the world more wonderful than being warm. We've all been too cold and it's just miserable. You shake and shiver, and try everything you can to get warmer. Fortunately childen in an oprhanage in Anhui now will be warm the rest of the winter and cool this summer. Thanks so much many generous donors, Angel Covers was able to purchase 2 heating/air conditioning units for the Huaibei, Anhui SWI. Unforunately, it was about 40 degrees in the baby rooms! Now these kids will be warm and cozy all winter.

In Kenya, it's always warm...at least that's how it seems to me. The temperature rarely drops below 60 degrees and it certainly doesn't snow. In the summer, the temperature can reach well over 100 degrees and the humidity is horrible. Although the kids at Humble Hearts don't need heaters, they do need a home. Many are without families to care for them, or have families who don't understand all they are capable of regardless of their deafness. Angel Cottage was orginally built for 25 of these children. Now it's home to 36 and is frighteningly full. A new Angel Cottage is currently being built, but unfortunately construction costs are only going up. So many people have helped the construction continue. If you would like to do the same, please go to http://www.angelcovers.org/donation.html and help this project continue. Everyone who donates at least $10 will have his/her name put on a brick at Angel Cottage. Considering donating in honor of a loved one too. Everyone will recieved a picture of their brick. Please help us cover the walls with names, so the children of Angel Cottage will understand how many people around the world care about them.
Giving children a warm, safe place to live is vital. Thank you for all you are doing to be a part of this mission.

It's all about the kids.

When Angel Covers started almost 5 years ago, I said that we would not have our own programs, build our own orphanages, start our own schools. There are wonderful organizations out there that are already doing fabulous work, and my goal was simply to support them. Well, clearly plans changed.

What I realized is that there isn't an organization out there that can do all of the work that needs to be done. So, we started doing some of it too. Angel Covers has provided medical care, shelter, loving caregivers, food, blankets, safe beds, etc. to children around the world. But, one thing we have continued to believe is that we can't do it all....no one can. And, if we work together the needs will be fulfilled faster, children will be safer, bodies will be healthier.

As you know, Angel Covers partners with Love Without Boundaries on a regular basis with projects. Both organiztaions firmly believe that our work is not about our foundations, it's about the children. It's about getting their needs met and giving them the best chance at life we possibily can. In the spirit of this belief, I'm asking anyone who reads this to PLEASE follow this link http://apps.facebook.com/causes/view_cause/51591 and donate $10 to LWB.

If you haven't heard, FaceBook is having a competition and the organization with the most individual donors by 12 noon pst. tomorrow will win $50,000. Right now, LWB is in the lead. You also may not know that LWB had someone hack into their website and take it completely down just after Christmas. They have been unable to fundraise for individual children, start new programs, and have lost at least $50,000. If LWB wins this challange, 10 children with serious heart conditions will have surgery. Your $10 will completely change the lives of these 10 babies.

I believe with all my heart that we all must work together to make an impact on this world. The needs are too great to do it alone. With that in mind, please make a $10 donation, ask you spouse and friends to do the same, and let's help LWB help these children. Because it really is simply about helping the kids.

Success

This past weekend I was asked to come speak at a church in Kansas as well as an open house. I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be interviewed by a T.V. station and radio station. All weekend I met wonderful people who care deeply about the children we work with. At each talk I gave, children were sponsored, products were purchased, and people expressed great interest in getting more involved with Angel Covers.

While speaking at a church, I was asked if I consider Angel Covers to be successful or when we'll know that this organization is successful. My first instinct was to say, "Of course Angel Covers is successful. We have volunteers around the world who work hard and give their own financial resources to travel around the world. We care for thousands of children on a regular basis and they are healthier and have a better education because of it."

But, I also started thinking about success for the children we have the privilege to work with means to them. Sometimes success for these kids isn't measurable. Instead, it's in their attitudes about life and the hope for the future. Angel Covers is successful because it has given children around the world the confidence to dream of a different life, to hope for the future, to believe in themselves…you can see it in their eyes when you meet them. The kids I have meet, seem to believe that that I’m the one who has given them this sense of relief and joy in their lives. They don’t understand yet that this isn’t from me or any of our volunteers, but from themselves. Maybe the conduit is the programs we set up, or the food we provided, but they used those things and allowed themselves to believe they are capable of achieving more than they ever thought before.

AC will be successful when these girls graduate from high school or college. When the kids in Kenya graduate from high school or a trade school, and are able to support themselves and have a better life than they grew up with. When they don’t feel like they have to abandon their children as the only way to care for them, when they can work all day on a regular basis and afford to put food on the table each and every day, when they don’t contract AIDS or other diseases because they have the knowledge to prevent it….that’s also when AC will be successful. These kids look at us as if we are their hero’s, but what they don’t yet understand is that they are ours. If we can ever convey that message to them and have them truly understand it….well, I can’t think of a greater success than that. And when our first group of high school girls graduates, or the first group of Humble Hearts kids graduate, I’m going to be there tell them they are my hero’s. Because that’s what this is all about.
